But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5 NKJV).
Because of the sin of disobedience, the whole human race was separated from God and plunged into darkness. “…The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 NKJV). God loved the world so much that He was not willing for any of us to perish so He gave the ultimate sacrifice, the only sacrifice acceptable to Him, as a penalty for the sins of the whole world. His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, was that sacrifice. He became the spotless Lamb of God. While we were still sinners, He died for us, the just for the unjust, so that we may become the righteousness of God in Christ and live eternally with Him. “…According to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews 9:22 NKJV).
The redemptive blood of Jesus upon the cross at Mount Calvary atones for all our sins, all our sicknesses and all our diseases. It redeems us from all the curses of the law. “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV). Jesus bore all our sins, our sicknesses and diseases in His body and He nailed them to the cross so that we may go free. “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted” (Isaiah 53:4 NKJV).
The foundation for bodily healing was laid in the atoning death of Jesus Christ and is included in the gospel message preached by Jesus. It is in the will of God for us. Jesus announced that He came down from heaven to do His Father’s will and as He preached the good news of salvation, He healed the sick and delivered the oppressed. “…I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me” (John 6:38 NIV). There is great power in the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from all our sins and to heal our physical bodies of all sicknesses and diseases! The gospel of Jesus Christ is life changing for all those who believe. It opens our spiritual eyes and reveals to us the truth about who God is and the power of His love to transform us, to heal us, to forgive us of all our sins and to save us. It is liberating! It brings freedom and with it the power to cast out demons, to deliver the oppressed, and to set free all those who are in the bondages of sin.
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them” (Matthew 4:23-24 NKJV). Jesus was so moved with compassion for the people when He saw their needs. Not only did He heal all the sick people who were brought to him but He enlisted the help of his twelve apostles by giving them power to heal also.
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. “And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease” (Matthew 9:35-38; 10:1 NKJV). He later enlisted another 70 disciples as recorded in Luke chapter 10, gave them power and sent them out to do the same.
The power of Jesus to heal the sick is still available today. He taught His disciples, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (Matthew 14:12 NIV). His disciples continued this ministry of healing as is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. In Acts chapter 3, Peter, through the name of Jesus, healed a man who was crippled from birth. Acts chapter 5 records that great signs and wonders were wrought among the people by the hands of the apostles. Great multitudes of people brought their sick folks to the apostles and everyone received healing! In chapter 20 of the same book of Acts, Paul raised from the dead a young man who fell from a balcony while sleeping.
Physical healing and forgiveness of sins were made available to all of us through the atoning death of Christ. Both are made available when we repent and turn away from our sins. Healing for your body is available through faith the same way salvation for your soul is available to you through faith in Jesus. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change! If we turn from sin unto righteousness, God will heal us if we by faith seek Him for healing. Jesus came that we may have abundant life! He wants our physical bodies healed as much as He wants our souls healed. With His stripes we are healed! Believe on the Lord Jesus today for your healing and restoration! It is through faith in Him that you receive healing and eternal life.
