Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations (Psalm 100:4-5 NKJV).
It is good to give thanks to God continually because in doing so, we honor Him and acknowledge His goodness, grace and mercy towards us on a daily basis. He said in the psalms, “… Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:23 NLT). How awesome is that! Honoring God is as simple as giving Him the sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise from a grateful heart! If we do this He will reveal Himself to us in a greater way.
When we live in fellowship with Jesus each day, we build the foundation for an attitude of thankfulness. As we become more deeply rooted and built up in Christ, our hearts will start to overflow with the abundance of His love and we will become joyful and thankful for all the great blessings that He showers down upon us on a daily basis. As we journey with Jesus each day, we experience a greater intimacy with Him and we see His power at work in us and through us. As we go through difficulties in our lives and see the way He comes through for us each time we call upon Him for help, we can’t help but be overwhelmed by His amazing provision in each situation. Being thankful therefore is an overflow of God’s blessings upon us! We can’t help but give Him thanks and praise for all his goodness!
The blessings of God upon us are by far more than we can count! He sends rain to water the fields of the just as well as the unjust and He gives us all knowledge to prosper. His tender loving mercies towards us are from everlasting to everlasting and especially to those who fear Him. My heart is continually overflowing with thanksgiving and praise to Him for all that He has done for me and especially for the sacrifice of His dear Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for my sins and to grant me eternal life with Him! I could never forget to thank Him for all His goodness! I live in an attitude of praise, worship and thanksgiving throughout each day and my heart is forever joyful. The psalmist David was not shy in giving praises and thanksgiving to the great God of Israel. “Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can declare all His praise?” (Psalm 106:1-2 NKJV).
King David is a prime example of what it means to give ceaseless praises and thanksgiving to God from a grateful heart. Read the psalms! He sang praises and thanksgiving to God continually and God blessed him in everything he did! In 1 Chronicles 29:10-20, King David publicly acknowledged God’s great favor and entreated God’s blessings upon all His people and upon his son, Solomon. He let it be known that the abundance of blessings that He so richly enjoyed came down from God above. He offered the sacred and solemn act of thanksgiving, praises, devotion, and prayer to the God of Israel, a sacrifice that was well pleasing to God. When we thank God from a grateful heart for all His favors, it honors Him and moves Him to shower down more blessings upon us. With each blessing, we become even more thankful and more devoted to God through prayer and thanksgiving.
Remember therefore to offer up prayer and thanksgiving to God always. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6 NIV). Be ever mindful of God’s great love for you and that He has made provision for everything you need. Give Him the praise and thanksgiving due Him, devote yourself continually to prayer and be amazed at the blessings that God will pour out upon your life.
